Big Love

It’s War Between the Sexes: Brides and Grooms ‘Duke It Out’ on the MIHS Stage!
Coming in May, the Drama Dept will present the play, "Big Love" by Charles Mee.
It’s the brawling, sprawling story of 50 runaway brides who flee to an Italian villa to escape their arranged marriages. But the course of true love never did run smooth. When the head of the villa denies asylum to the brides, mayhem ensues. The grooms arrive by helicopter to take the brides to the ceremony. But unbeknownst to the grooms, the brides have made a pact that immediately following the wedding they will kill their husbands.
It is the battle of the sexes on steroids - exposing the underpinnings of arranged marriages, abuse, societal expectations, fear, confusion, masculinity, femininity, sexuality and hope. At once tragic and satirical, the brutal end expresses our despair and yet offers the possibility of redemption.
While it has serious themes, it doesn't take itself too seriously. Everyone who is in a relationship, is wishing for a relationship, is grieving over the loss of a relationship or hopes never to be in a relationship should see this play.
It’s about LOVE. It’s very messy.
