August 30, 2011 Mercer Island students continue their strong performance on state testsOn August 30, 2011 State Superintendent Randy Dorn announced the results of the Grades 3-8 Measurements of Student Progress (MSP), the Grade 10 High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) and the End-of-Courses exams in Algebra and Geometry. Statewide the results were mixed in reading, writing and science when compared to student performance in 2010. View the statewide results. Mercer Island students continue to outperform the state average and their peers across the state. Student scores on the MSP and HSPE are mixed results, echoing the statewide results. View highlights from the exams. However, all of our schools continue to place in the top tier of schools in the state for the highest average percent of students passing the MSP and HSPE. In fact one national website lists Mercer Island School District as the number 1 school district in the state of Washington using the most recent testing data. View Mercer Island’s OSPI Report Card. According to Superintendent Dr. Gary Plano, “Overall we are pleased with the performance of our students on these state exams. We will be looking closely at the results for each grade level and will continue to collaborate with our school principals to analyze the results and with a laser focus design interventions to help students meet or exceed standards through personalized learning.” |
